"This was our fourth time at the National but importantly the third year in a row since the major change. It is still wonderful and keeps the right balance of elegance and calm in the centre of South Beach. This time there were a few anomolies. It advertises itself as an adult hotel but we saw children running around at and in the pool. They were well behaved but I'm not sure why they were there. Room service was awful for the amount we spent. No glasses in the room (actually this happened last year) and we asked at reception with no result after a full day, then rang room service asking for standard glasses and ice and waited an hour with nothing. We ended up walking to the bar asking for glasses and ice and bringing them back. During the 5 days we were there we had to wash the glasses ourselves. The other negative thing is allowing people around the pool to smoke. Biggest gripe of all. They now allow outside visitors (who might get better service than paying guests for 5 days). When we tried to get beds and towels at the weekend at around 3pm, not only were there no beds but no towels on two days running. A waiting list for towels. Finally the Martini Bar is shown as open on the website at weekends with live music. On the Saturday night we arrived it was closed. The bartender at the Blues Bar said it was only for special functions. No update to the website. We love The National and want to come back, but hopefully these issues will be a one off. "

"Beautiful lobby bar and much better food than a hotel normally has to offer. Drinks are steep at the pool… but that’s to be expected right on the beach. Location is wonderful. "

"The location was great. We didn't rent a car, so it was very important to be close to the beach and restaurants. We were with kids and they loved the location as well. Right across the street there is a large grass area so we could seat in the restaurant outside and watch our kids play ball. The rooms were a little tight for a family of 4 but we only stayed 2 nights and we spent our time outside. We went to the pool once which is on a roof of another hotel. It was a short walk and it was clean. The staff was very nice and greeted us with extra bottles of water which was great after a long flight. We also received voucher for a welcome drink in a restaurant next door. The Uber ride from the Miami airport was about 30 minutes. "
