Stare at the stars, or come face to face with the dangerous scorpion fish at Liverpool’s natural history museum.

Visit Liverpool’s premier natural history museum to discover the amazing facts about dinosaurs, ancient history and outer space. Since 1851 the World Museum has played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s cultural landscape, and today it remains one of the most popular attractions in the city. The museum’s permanent collections are divided into three sections natural history, human history and space. An aquarium and a planetarium are among the museum highlights. A day at the World Museum is an excellent family activity, but will also appeal to anyone with an interest in history or science.

With five floors of exhibitions it’s easy to spend a whole afternoon at the World Museum. Begin with a visit to the planetarium for an up-close view of the moon. From your comfortable seat you’ll be whisked through the solar system, thanks to the state of the art digital projection system.

The aquarium features aquatic species from around the globe. See tropical scorpion fish, brightly colored clownfish or a range of species from mangrove areas. The local species that live on the shores of Liverpool, including the thornback ray and plaice are abundant at the aquarium. A learning space allows children to see sea life up close through microscopes.

See rare fossil specimens, ancient artifacts from the Egyptian era or gigantic dinosaur skeleton casts. A meteorite from Mars that landed in Africa during the 1960s can be found on the fifth floor. The museum caters for younger children, and the Bug House is sure to be a favorite. Get up close and personal with spiders, beetles and scorpions from around the world.

The World Museum is located in central Liverpool and can be reached by car or metro. Pay and display parking can be found behind the museum. The World Museum is closed on Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years Day and admission is free.
