Discover native flora and fauna, and experience the country’s indigenous culture at this popular theme park. See alligators and lions, and watch tribal dances.

Surround yourself with the sights, sounds and smells of nature at Manatí Park, Bávaro. This wildlife and cultural attraction showcases exotic animals, plants and local customs. Learn about the region’s endangered animals and discover how native people lived before European explorers arrived in the 15th century.

Many animal species, including caimans, flamingos and iguanas, are housed at Manatí Park. A few of the animals you will see are the result of the park’s successful breeding programs.

Manatí Park prides itself on allowing visitors to enjoy contact with the wildlife. Take the opportunity to touch dolphins, sea lions, snakes and crabs, under the guidance of experienced keepers. Feed exotic birds inside the aviary.

The park is set in a tropical botanical garden. As you make your way from one animal enclosure to the next, stop to appreciate the flowers, which include orchids and tropical species native to the Dominican Republic.

Throughout the day, there are numerous scheduled animal shows. Laugh at the antics of performing parrots, applaud the dancing Andalusian horses, and marvel at the tricks and synchronized jumping of the dolphins. For an additional fee you can swim with the dolphins.

Manatí Park pays tribute to the Taíno Indians, the country’s native people. Visit a re-creation of a traditional Taíno village. Watch dance rituals, study paintings and costumes, and see local artisans at work. There is also a small museum filled with Taíno artifacts.

If you love getting close to wildlife and experiencing indigenous cultures, a trip to Manatí Park will not disappoint. You can easily spend half a day here, despite the park’s compact size.

The attraction is open daily and is located between Bávaro and Punta Cana on the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic. A free shuttle bus service runs to the park from all major hotels in the Bávaro area. There is an entrance fee, which is discounted for children between the ages of 2 and 12 years. Before you go, check out the official Manatí Park website for details of animal show times.
