"Nice hotel in a good spot in Barrio Escalante. It was nice to have our own apartment with a kitchen. Room was clean and the staff was friendly. I could tell that booking through Expedia was an extra hurdle for them, because we didn't get standard messages like our room door code or the wifi details, those appeared to be arranged some other way which was not known to me. It's well worth the money, but maybe book on a different platform."

The property was great - reasonably priced, nice breakfast, clean, colorful and located very close to Barrio Escalante - great coffee and dining options. " Santo Tomas Hotel was a very nice stay for my family. The hotel is in downtown and is nicely gated. The desk is well manned and the gate opened almost immediately upon our arrival, even after we went out and came back very late. Comfortable beds and nice hot showers. We had our own toiletries but good to mention there was only small bar soap in the bathroom. There is a fridge and microwave in a common area. No ac but the room had a great air flow including ceiling fan. Breakfast was amazing and...

"This is such a nice budget hotel with a good view from the top. Breakfast is included, and the typical Costa Rica breakfast is an option. You’ll notice wear and tear from the place being an older building, but nearly everything functioned fine. My only complaint is that the electrical outlets didn’t work in my room except for the one with the fridge. My friend’s outlets did. I had a phone-charging battery pack, so it didn’t matter to me. I imagine they’d be accommodating if that were to matter...

"The building itself is nice but it is in need of a restoration. My room was spacious, but the beds were saggy and there's no air conditioner. The curtain does not cover the window completely so anybody in the hallway can look inside which is strange. They do have a strict rule of not allowing guests into the hotel. On a side note, they don't give you hand towels unless you ask for it. On the whole, my stay there was just ok, nothing really good or bad, that's the reason for an average rating."
