Ride this historic chairlift to a lookout point that offers spectacular panoramic views of the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg’s townscape.

Gatlinburg Sky Lift is a 1950s chairlift that transports you from downtown Gatlinburg to a lookout point at the summit of Crockett Mountain. From an elevation of 1,800 feet (549 meters) you can enjoy picnics while taking in the views of the Smoky Mountains and the pretty town below.

After purchasing a ticket, take a seat on the chairlift chairs accommodate two adults or one adult and two small children. You’ll then begin the slow ascent to the top of Crockett Mountain, passing above a lush forest, which is particularly beautiful with colorful fall foliage. Have your camera ready to take pictures of the surrounding mountains, Little Pigeon River and Mysterious Mansion, one of Gatlinburg’s oldest houses and reputedly the town’s most haunted.

At the top of the mountain you are free to explore the large lookout area, surrounded on three sides by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. For a small fee you can use binoculars to get a close-up view of the mountains’ natural beauty. Bring your own food and eat at one of the picnic tables or purchase drinks and snacks from the gift shop. Inside the shop you can also buy a souvenir photo that was taken of you on your ride up to the lookout platform.

The ride back down is equally impressive as you watch the town draw nearer. Ride the chairlift after sunset to experience a town of sparkling lights and silhouetted peaks.

Located right in the downtown area, the Gatlinburg Sky Lift is close to many of the town’s major attractions. Gatlinburg Space Needle and the Hollywood Star Cars Museum are both less than a five-minute walk away. Gatlinburg’s paid trolley line stops close to the chairlift’s entrance and there are paid car parks nearby.

Gatlinburg Sky Lift is open daily, including public holidays, with varying hours depending on conditions. Consider an evening trip looking over the lights of the city for a lovely end to a day of fun in Gatlinburg.
