The Sunshine Aquarium has turned a tower’s rooftop deck into a tropical haven with tanks full of active marine creatures. Stretching across the top floors and an outdoor park area, the aquarium consists of a leafy garden and a waterfront section. Bring the whole family to watch the feedings and performances of impressive water-loving animals.
Follow the Sky Journey as you walk beneath a large glass tank and watch penguins overhead frolicking and diving in the water. Beyond the tank stands the magnificent Tokyo skyline, giving the impression that the penguins are flying in the sky. Stroll along the Sky Path, where you can watch a fascinating performance by pelicans during their feeding time.
Admire the colorful aquatic creatures swimming through the Sunshine Lagoon tank and marvel at the bizarre creatures in the Jellyfish Tunnel. See the range of aquatic plants and animals, including squids and corals, in the aquarium’s Ocean Journey area that brings you on an exploration of the ocean floor.
Among the highlights of the complex is the Marine Garden outdoor section, with a grasslands penguin exhibit that brings a bucolic flair to the concrete jungle of Tokyo. Watch the feeding sessions for penguins, sea lions and fish. You can also attend an underwater performance and greet otters.
On the aquarium’s second floor is the Waterfront Journey of rivers, lakes and coasts. Inspect the frogs, turtles and other creatures from these ecosystems.
Note that the site opens from morning until early evening, staying open later in summer. The admission price is heavily discounted for children. For additional city skyline views visit the SKY CIRCUS Sunshine 60 Observatory platform just west of the aquarium.
